Status Change and Extension Application is the application made on behalf of individuals holding legal statuses such as B-2 (Tourist), F-1 (Student), or J-1 (Exchange Program) within the United States to extend their current statuses or transition to a different status. This application only covers “temporary” statuses that are non-immigrant and non-permanent.

The application is submitted to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) by completing the I-539 form and attaching supporting documents. If your application is approved, your legal status will be extended according to your request or you will be granted a transition to another status as requested.
